About Diploma courses in State



After 10th standard many students also prefer to pursue a technical course.

Three year technical diploma courses 

These courses focus in making the candidate technically sound and also job ready. For girls certain diploma courses are offered to make them undertake jobs as Secretaries, Administrators, Co-ordinators, Librarians, Personal Assistants among other vocations. These courses are one, two or three year duration. 
The focus in these courses is to train the girls on business skills, communication skills, IT skills and specific skills of a job.
Non-technical Diploma Courses offered by Women Polytechnics are Architecture Assistantship, Commercial Practice – English, Commercial Practice – Kannada, Secretarial Practice, Modern Office Practice, Business Administration, Library science & Information management, Costume Design Dress Making, Interior Decoration.

Choosing a Polytechnic:
The Government Polytechnics are well equipped and attract the best students. Hence first preference can be given to a Government Polytechnic.

Some private management polytechnics, if not all, are really good. You can choose the best based on feedback of ex-students and placement records. 
Girls have the option to join a regular polytechnic or a only girls polytechnic.
Many polytechnics today do not have good faculty. 
Hence a student must check the faculty details before choosing.

Some industries offer two and three year Diploma Courses to create well trained manpower specific to their requirements. 
The course is job-oriented and candidates are trained to become qualified technicians / engineers of the specific technology / industry.

Advantages over PUC:
A diploma is three years of theory plus practicals. 
It is linked to job and increase in knowledge and skills while PUC focuses on memorizing and writing exams. 
A diploma is good for those who have decided what to pursue in engineering while PUC is good if he/she has not decided on the engineering options. 
A diploma makes a student realize and practice his technical skills before joining Engineering while PUC gives no idea about technical skills.
